India has a history of spectacular textile art, which can be traced back 5000 years. Indian textiles were appreciated not only in India but desired in markets spanning the globe, from Southeast Asia to Europe.
The TAPI Collection consists of over four thousand textiles of historic value, encompassing a wide range of techniques, materials, and motifs. It comprises court textiles used by Mughal and provincial rulers, beautifully woven cottons and silk brocades, trade textiles of the 15th- 19th centuries produced for export markets, regional embroideries, painted and printed textiles, rare Kashmir shawls and religious textiles such as Pichhwais, Mata ni Pachhedi and Jain scrolls.
